LubriSyn is an oral form of hyaluronic acid (HA) administered daily to maintain consistent
levels in the body. LubriSyn can help maintain healthy joints by improving the quality of synovial fluid, the liquid that
surrounds the horse’s joints and helps cartilage function.
Unlike other hyaluronic acid (HA) products made from things such as rooster combs,
LubriSyn is extracted from a microbial source. This method keeps it free from dermatan, chondroitin sulfate and other glycosaminoglycan
contamination that may be found in other HA products.
LubriSyn is the only patented oral form of HA. It has been proven that HA needs
to be in a liquid state in order to have the highest absorption levels in the body.
Both products are drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat arthritis
or joint inflammation and are administered by injection. Legend is hyaluronic acid formulated for intravenous or intramuscular
use. Adequan is polysulfated chondroitin sulfate also formulated for intramuscular use. Both products result in a rise in
blood concentration after administration followed by a return to baseline levels within several hours unless the drug is re-administered
(Popot et al., 2004)
No. Cosequin is mainly made up of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. Cosequin works
on the cartilage while LubriSyn is more beneficial to the joint fluid. These two products can work synergistically to improve
the joint integrity.
Both the pints and the quarts have a measuring reservoir that is marked in milliliters
and ounces. We recommend that you start with a “loading” dose for three to four days of 30 ml or 1 oz. Then you
can drop it to the “maintenance” dose of 15 ml or 1/2 oz. These measurements can vary slightly from animal to
animal. The gallon size comes with a pump that can be placed directly in the container. Each “squirt” is a measured
15 ml dose. The other option for the gallon is the dosing gun. It also fits right on the gallon and administers a measured
dose directly into the animal’s mouth.
LubriSyn allows the joints to maintain health by quickly increasing mobility and
joint stability. This translates into an increase in performance in the animal.
LubriSyn is basically an odorless and tasteless product. Since LubriSyn is a sodium-based
product, some people say that it does have a slightly salty taste.
There is no exact time. Most animals observed have improved noticeably within
seven to 14 days. Results vary depending on severity of the joint health problems and the dose of LubriSyn.
So far we know of no problems with animals accepting LubriSyn. Many people just
administer with grain. Others feel more comfortable using the dosing gun placed directly in the animal’s mouth.
This product may break down if contaminated by bacteria. We have added a minimal
amount of preservatives to try to avoid any deterioration of the product. We have also taken steps through our administering
methods (i.e., the squeeze-filled reservoir on the pints and quarts, and the pump and dosing gun for the gallons) to ensure
its integrity. These methods were chosen to try to keep the unused portion of the product in as clean an environment as possible.
Yes. As with most liquid nutritional supplements, extreme hot or cold temperatures
can cause some breakdown. We recommend storing LubriSyn in the range between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. DO NOT freeze LubriSyn.
No. HA is something found in the body naturally and it will not show up in a post-competition
test. However, if competing under “zero supplement” regulations (e.g., FEI), the horse will not suffer any ill
effects of LubriSyn withdrawal during the few days of competition
